Hijab, Source of Haya

Let’s read another hijab story.

⚫ Start of my hijab journey.

6 years back, I attended a class of Al-Noor on the topic “haya ” which was organized in opposition of Valentine day. Before going to class, I used to cover my head with dupaata only. That class just infused a new spirit. One line that gave me motivation to start abaya and hijab was, “there are different ways to go near to Almighty, and hijab is one of them, bcoz Allah want to see u in hajib “This was the thing which gave me motivation to start abaya .And I started doing it alhumdulilah .I used to do hijab but I have not started observing veil at that time. But 2020 taught me many things..I realized that we are ready to cover our faces to protect ourselves from covoid but not ready to do for sake of Allah ‘s happiness. The incident which made me realize this was,During march 2020 , we made a plan of outing. Before going out,we put on mask as covoid protocol, I asked my khala to put on as well. She replied,” I don’t need this mask to protect myself,my Allah has already given me my protective measure (veil) to protect myself”This line just hit the heart and just realized how much Almighty loves us, the things Almighty ordered us to do are solely for our welfare. After this,I started doing veil alhumdulilah.

⚫What difficulties I faced

To be very honest, I don’t find any difficulty first when I stared doing hijab and abaya bcoz my family members do so I don’t find any difficulty at all. But yes when I started doing veil, here I faced problems. The mentality of society is that observing veil make a female unconfident, backward etc. So i faced taunts of people of being less than non hijabians ,of being backward and narrow minded and irony gazes (oh she is a hijabian she can’t go ahead, she can’t be intelligent, she can’t achieve her aims) . I faced discrimination as well because this is the common mentality that hijab or veil encage a female . I would like to share an incident.(all the hijabians has to pass through I guess)Once my uncle asked me,why you observe veil, why u don’t use a mask. I replied,” I observe veil because it make me more confident. I feel comfortable as i am protected from all the evil eyes.Next question was,But the veil make you look backward and a person who lags behindI replied,” veil is not a prison, it’s my identity. It never encage me it give me wings to fly. It give me confidence to look in the world’s eye and achieve my aims as the biggest hurdle (evil eyes) which make a female uncomfortable is no more affecting.Next question was,If you are so confident, then why you need a veil. U can overcome evil eyes by just ignoring as well.I replied,” I can’t make every male to lower their gaze,I can’t slap everyone for casting evil eyes but I can protect myself so why shouldn’t i protect myself. If only confidence matters, then why soldiers on the border have weapons in their hands. Ask them to stand confidently only, the enemies will not say anything. No this is not possible because sometimes we have to take protective measures so hijab is my protective measure .My uncle looked at me and got my point. He appreciated me of owning my hijab and defending it and not getting embarrass. ( It was kind of exams how I own my hijab)If you face problems while doing something right, just continue it because while following Deen,we are being tested and in akhirah the reward will be the most beautiful one.
