Let’s learn lessons from great Shabas (R.A)
Steadfastness.
Steadfastness in Islam
with real life examples of Sahaba رضي الله عنهم
Steadfastness means to remain firm on something. Therefore steadfastness in Islam is all about firm believe in Allah, His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his teachings, as it is a basic requirement of a firm believer or a Muslim. The word Muslim in Arabic has a root letter س ل م which means to surrender. So a Muslim will be called “Muslim (a one who surrenders)” when he or she surrenders all his or her teachings towards Allah’s teachings and will remain committed to it. It can be understand by a Quran’s ayah which states that
إِنَّ صَلَاتِى وَنُسُكِى وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِى لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah SWT, Lord of the worlds. (سورة الانعام: 162 )
Currently, we are living in an era where religion Islam has been taken aside and morality is just an old story by old people. Every second is devoted to any kind of temptation either it could be tempt of wealth, strength in society, power, lust etc. All these temptations are on one side and your emaan (belief) is on other. We have some powerful examples from Sahaba رضي الله عنهم life, who remain steadfast and committed towards Allah’s words in every difficulty of their life.
The best example could be family of Yasir رضي الله عنه whose wife Summaya رضي الله عنها and son Ammar رضي الله عنه were also being tortured by Abu Jahl (disbeliver) to disobey Muhammad ﷺ. He ruthlessly tortured them and constantly ordered them to disbelieve; for which family of Yasir kept on saying “اَحَدٌ” which means Allah is only one. For this, the wife of Yasir was being stabbed by Abu Jahl in between of her chest or some scholars say that he stabbed in her lower abdomen. This made her first female martyr of Islam. When Muhammad ﷺ got to know about this torturing persecution, he advised family of Yasir to remain patient and believe in Allah since your reward is heaven.
The persecution of Summaya رضي الله عنها reminded us story of wife of Pharaoh as well who were also brutally killed by her husband since she believed in Allah and deny her husband as god. While killing her, Pharaoh gave her last chance to accept him as her “ilah (god)” and also showed her palace that it can be again yours if you say so. Then she just smiled and prayed to Allah SWT
رَبِّ ٱبْنِ لِى عِندَكَ بَيْتًۭا فِى ٱلْجَنَّةِ
My Lord! Build me a house in Paradise near You. (التحريم: 11)
She stayed firm on her believes against the wealth and power that Pharaoh was offering her. These examples are real and every torture gives us message to remain firm on our believes since the world has opened its gates for secularism, modernism, feminism, ignorance, etc. that are acting as worst fitnah (difficulties) of this time, which is effecting the nerves of Muslims utmost. Considering all these societal disease, a practicing Muslim has to work hard for his commitment towards his deen.
